Matteo Monami is the director of the Diabetic Foot Unit of Careggi Teaching Hospital since 2016. He graduated from the University of Florence in 1999. He specializes in geriatric medicine (2003), with a Ph.D. in physiopathological aspects of geriatric medicine (2006), and has been a diabetologist for the University of Florence and Careggi Hospital since 2008. He wrote more than 230 scientific articles in indexed journals on several fields: diabetes and its complications, cardiovascular disease, and sexual disorders. He is an expert in research methodological aspects, designing several randomized control trials and a high number of metanalyses.

He was involved in the Italian expert panel for the development of guidelines for treating type 2 diabetes. He is currently working as a methodologist for the development of Italian guidelines for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and Italian guidelines for the surgical treatment of obesity.
