Erwin Blessing, MD, is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and angiology.
Since 2022 he is Clinic Director at the University Heart and Vascular Center at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. Until 2022 he acted Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the SRH Hospital in Karlsbad-Langensteinbach, Germany. As part of the certified vascular center, his clinic cares for patients with diseases of the arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels, such as venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot syndrome, critical limb ischemia, and intermittent claudication. His main clinical focus are complex arterial interventions, lesion preparation, debulking devices and drug-based therapies.
Prof. Blessing earned his medical degree at Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen, Germany. He completed an internship at Hanover Medical School, Germany, and a residency at Heidelberg University, Germany. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He joined the medical staff at SRH Hospital in 2014. Previously, he served as Chief of the Angiology Department at University of Heidelberg.
With more than 15 years of experience conducting clinical trials, Prof Blessing has participated in more than 50 studies and has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. He is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and frequently serves as invited faculty for international conferences and symposia including TCT, VIVA, Euro PCR, CIRSE, Leipzig Interventional Course (LINC), and VEITHsymposiumTM.
Prof. Blessing is Programm Director of the 2023 Annual Meeting of the German Society of Angiology and acts as incoming president for the German Society of Angiology.
